The Legend of El Lagarto de Jaén is a folk legend from the province of Jaén in southern Spain. It tells the story of a monstrous and mythical creature known as "El Lagarto" or "The Lizard of Jaén." According to the legend, "El Lagarto" was a gigantic lizard-like creature that terrorized the area around Jaén, particularly in the vicinity of the town of Martos. This monstrous reptile was said to be enormous and had a dragon-like appearance. It was believed to dwell in the depths of the Martos River and would occasionally emerge to wreak havoc on the local population.
